circular knitting needles...

craftgrrlwell, i had my first experience with circular needles, pretty much by accident. i was working on a scarf with no. 11 needles (plastic ones, becasue that's what i had in my mass of inhereited needles) and on christmas, i stuck the needles into the cone of yarn to take a break, set it on the side of the couch, then minutes later leaned on it, shattering one of the needles... so yesterday my mom and i went on a hunt for a new needle, but we could only find a circular size 11. feels very awkward to me, i much prefer straight needles, but this will make do for now...
also, what size (length-wise) circular needles should i use for arm/leg warmers? or should i use double pointed needles...?
