I hadn't cast on enough stitches while making a hat for a friend, so I turned it into a baby hat

The ear flaps and cat ears (that look a little more bat-ish) were crochet'd on. I used no pattern really, I just judged the length and shape as I worked though it. The yarn was cheap and stiff, perfect for what I needed.
I'm going to mess around with this style and make an adult style hat with a little bit more color and nicer texture.
I felt really happy working without a pattern. Next pay check I'm getting a measuring tape and I'll start working on making my own clothes in the same 'freehand' style.

I also made these really great cookies.

how to make cookies any dentist will hate:

Bake your favorite peanut butter cookies (make sure that they are small- about 1 tbs size) when they are cooling crush 1 package of peanut brittle. I've found the best way to do this is pour the candy on a metal cookie sheet. Then, with a heavy metal spatula press the heel of your hand down on the spatula crushing the candy. You don't want to pulverize the stuff, but you want it pretty darn small.
Once candy is crushed and cookies are cool melt 1 bag of peanut butter chips (I use the resees pieces chips) in a shallow pan over very low heat. Once the chips are melted turn off the heat as they scorch easily. Dip each cookie 'face down' into the peanut butter, then dip the sticky cookie into the brittle, and let cool on the cookie rack.

These are so good that you won't even miss the teeth you lose while eating them.
