Using some free cotton fabric I got from one of the lovely ladies at Glitter, I put together an overnight bag for myself. I'm moving into an apartment soon for college, but will still be commuting home for the weekends and whatnot, and this bag will come in handy for bringing things back and forth.

My sewing skills are far from perfect, as you can see from the top zipper image. I had a lot of trouble putting together this bag. First, I used no pattern; I just sketched out pieces to sew together and then cut the fabric based on my measurements. Second, while sewing this bag, my needle broke and shattered into a number of pieces, one which bounced off my neck. After that, I was ready to give up sewing, but I was encouraged by everyone to finish the bag & also was advised to use a heavier-duty needle. I picked up some thicker needles (for sewing denim) and finishing the bag was almost as simple as eating a piece of cake.

So what if it doesn't LOOK perfect? It is functional, and that is what I need it to be.
