Skirts!

These first three were ongoing projects using fusible web (for the uninitiated: fusible web is basically a flat sheet of fabric glue you can use to fuse two bits of fabric together with the help of an iron) - ordinarily I just sew on appliques, but I thought the web might be a nice help (though I wound up sewing them all on anyway because I don't trust the web to hold). I had a few minor catastrophes but I'm getting the hang of it.

Variations on a theme:

The greatest shade of teal poplin ever, with black linen-look semicircle appliques:

Yellow poplin, same appliques as above:

Turquoise twill (I'm very into blue lately, oddly), same appliques as above, though these are symmetrical:

Red poplin, rickrack ahoy:

Salmon-pink twill, various trim scraps I had lying around. I was in a strange mood when I made this, and usually "strange mood" items are made just for the gratification of making something, and rarely ever get worn. This, however, I wear often, and every time I do, people at work stop me in the halls or the cafeteria to tell me how much they love it, which I continue to find inexplicable because it's such a silly, not-taking-anything-seriously skirt. Unfortunately, it doesn't photograph well, but you get the idea:

I bought this purple corduroy virtually for free, because I wanted to make a sturdy and comfortable skirt with BIG POCKETS to wear while sewing, as an alternative to wearing an apron:

Not sure about this one, but I think I like it much better on than in this photograph. It's a dark denim a-line skirt I started but never finished until recently, and I added an applique of yellow twill with freehand machine-embroidery in turquoise thread. The flash seriously washed out the yellow in this picture - it's not nearly so pale in normal light.
