etching on mirrors?

I picked up six mirrors from goodwill yesterday... the frames are in good shape but the mirrors are a little funky (they're the cheap kind). I don't really want to take the mirrors out and use the frames..

I was thinking of etching something onto the mirrors. Can I use the glass etching stuff? (the brand names escape me right now...)
