Baby Shower Gifts
Mar. 12th, 2006 09:23 pmI just recently threw a baby shower for my friend at the end of February. I used it as an excuse to try all kinds of new crafts. A bit picture heavy.

This is only the second afghan I have ever crocheted. I got the pattern from: http://home.wideopenwest.com/~sag55/hdcaf.html
But I added a border. It was pretty easy but I have learned that it is difficult to crochet with a 3 year old and 10 month old running around. But it was super soft.

I got the bib pattern from here: http://www.poopockets.com/free/bibs/bibs.htm
I had so much fun picking out material for the bibs. The watermelon one says "sweetie" and the green one says "sweet pea" on it and has smiley faces on the peas in a pod. And with the leftover material, I made burp cloths...

I think I used every decorative stitch I had on my machine for the burp cloths. So that was fun.
I also made heirloom handkerchiefs. One for my daughter's first birthday this week, one for the baby, and one for her big sister. They are for when they each get married. It was my first time attaching lace to material and my first time trying out the free-motion embroidery function on my sewing machine. This is where I got the instructions for the handkerchief: http://www.sewyoungsewfun.com/freeprojects/handkerchief/handkerchief.html

I also made these decorative balls as favors.

I used three inch styrofoam balls. I then cut out 2 inch squares of material using a pinking blade on my rotary cutter. I then used the end of a paint brush and poked all of the material into each ball. It took about 1/2 yard of material for each one (about 160 squares). I added some ribbon for a hanger and some scented oil for fragrance. I was pleased with how they turned out.
And this was the cake I made with butterflies. It was a lemon cake with lemon mousse filling and buttercream icing. It was yummy!

Whew! That was a lot. Thanks for looking.
