Yay! I made a new bag. It is airplane themed. Remember those applique and zipper questions I asked a while ago? Well, here are the results.

The applique, which you all helped me with:

A sterling silver zipper pull, specially ordered:

It has big front pockets:

And big back pockets:

And I love how the sides fold in when it's not full:

And the inside has two pockets, one small and one bigger:

This is for a swap. The girl wanted it for an airplane ride she'll be taking in May. She wears a lot of black and blue. I think it rocks and I hope she likes it, too.

There were a lot of firsts for me, the zipper being the most worriesome. I also tried a new technique in which I sewed the seams so the rough edges were on the outside. I covered the rough edges with grosgrain ribbon. I won't be doing that again because it was a lot of work and the results weren't at all like I pictured they would be. I still like how it turned out, though.

Sadly there is no pattern. I let the sizes of the fabric dictate the size of the bag, pockets and handles. I redid a few things and had "ah-ha!" moments all throughout the process. It was fun and challenging and I'm glad it's finally done.
