tie dying for groups.
Jul. 1st, 2006 11:21 amokay, so i know there's a ton of stuff on tie dyeing on the internet. but honestly, it's all starting to blend together! i've been reading up on this forever.
what i need is for people to tell me if the way i'm planning will work! and if not, what else can i do?
i need to tye dye 75 t-shirts tommorrow. we've already done the whole elastic thing on thursday (god my arms hurt!), so that's done.
the plan is to use either RIT or dylon, whatever i can find in rainbow colours, the cold water dyes. i know there are much better options, but they require more steps, and are more expensive. these shirts are just to wear in a parade, and we've got a ton to do with tie dye virgins, so simple is the word of the day!
we have big tubs of some sort that came from a hospital, though i have yet to see them. i've been assured that they will hold at least 10 tshirts submerged.
so my plan is to divy up the shirts into 6 groups, toss each group into a dye bath, leave it there for an hour or so, then throw them into a bigger bucket full of water and vinegar. once the vinegar helps the dye set, we'll take off the elastic bands and throw them in the washing machine to rinse out the dye.
then we'll hang them on a couple clothes lines to dry.
WILL THIS WORK? i was hoping it would be way simpler than trying to dip them or trying to use the squeeze bottles, especially since it will be done primarily by adults who are already talking about what wine they're bringing!
i'll end up with about 12 or 13 t-shirts of each colour of the rainbow. so there'll be red with white rings, orange with white rings, etc, etc.
please give me feedback! i'm starting to stress out that it's not gonna work and we'll be out the cost of the t-shirts and have to start over.....
