quilt in the making
Aug. 1st, 2006 04:11 pmI posted here a week or two back about a Bowser quilt I wanted to make my boyfriend. I ended up going with the much-simpler red toadstool design, and finished piecing it together last night (I dragged out the process since I've been sewing clothes as well):

Now my question is, is the design too simple/boring/small? That gray cloth is going to be the top of the quilt (I haven't attached the toadstool to it yet) and then I'm going to quilt all over in a grid design to match the squares. But I dunno...it seems so much simpler than I had originally envisioned. Should I add something else? I was thinking of adding a few crosses, sort of like this:

but then I thought it might look sorta girly/unnecessary. I'm not sure. Is it ok as is? Any other ideas what to add? I could also make the blanket a bit smaller so the toadstool looks bigger.
Also, one question about quilting. Can I make the grid bigger than the size of my pieces when I quilt? It seems like it'd take forever to quilt that whole thing into 1.5x1.5 squares. Or would it look off, since the pieces would be smaller than the grid? Thanks so much.
