Question for those who sew

I have a new sewing machine. I can even thread the bobbin! And sew an (almost) straight line. But other than that, I really don't know how to use the darn thing. I bought a book on learning to sew, but it makes it all look way too complicated. I need something, dare I say, dumbed down.

Are there any really easy intructional websites out there, for a simple, beginner project? I have some fat quarters and I'm itching to make something, just to get started. What was your first project?
