two questions - thick paper & houndstooth fabric

Alright, I have two questions for you helpful crafters:
1) Does anyone know where I can find thick paper that I can sew on?
2) Does anyone know where I can find black and white houndstooth fabric?


I was browsing through Miss Meshell's blog (which I am absolutely in love with) and found these Christmas postcards that she made. She said she sewed fabric and pellon (can someone tell me what this is?) onto thick cards. That is what I'm trying to find.


And as far as the fabric goes - pretty straight forward. If possible, I would prefer a non-online store.
