Dying plastic grocery bags? Help!

craftgrrl i'm thinking about making a reusable grocery tote bag by crocheting old plastic bags together. sort of like this:

my bags are mostly all white and a light brown though (kinda dull). does anyone know if it would be possible for me to dye them? thanks!
