Purse help, anyone?
Dec. 31st, 2006 02:43 pmI need some advice on sprucing up a purse. Does anyone know anything about working with pleather/patent leather/stuff of that sort? Your help would be appreciated.
Ever since moving to Japan, I've fallen completely in love with Gothic Lolita culture. I can't wear the clothes myself, because they're not made in my size, so I'm learning a few things about sewing (the process is coming quite slowly though, haven't completed any outfits yet). So I know the basics of working with soft materials.
One of my favorite brands is Baby the Stars Shine Bright. They have a purse that I've been in love with forever, but I haven't been able to justify spending over 16000 yen for it. Here's the purse:

I was shopping the other day in Okayama when I came across this purse, by Shin and Company, not even 1/4th the price of the BSSB one:

So I bought it. And now I want to add lace and ribbons to it to have it vaguely resemble the more expensive one. But I don't know the first thing about working with tough materials like the pleather this purse seems to be made of. I thought about hot glue, but I'm worried that it would come off easily.
A friend of mine suggested I super-glue black or white ribbon around the edge and sew the lace onto that. That sounds like something I can do easily enough, but what do you suggest? Types of glue, types of lace, any other helpful tips? Any help would be appreciated, thank you. <3
