These are the two versions of hairbands that I made this morning.

This was inspired by those 1 yard packages of embellished trim in craft stores. One yard really isn't that much to work with, but the ribbons are so lux I just had to try. Each hairband is made of 1/2 a yard of ribbon, 2 ribbon crimp ends and about 6 inches of black oval elastic.

Scissors to cut the ribbon and the elastic, glue to fold over the ends and secure the frayed edges of the threads and then the crimps. Use heavy duty jewelry pliers to close the crimps.

Detail of the ends: I found that it helps to loop the elastic and just tie the ends together, otherwise there's two knots to break instead of just one. Don't skimp on the elastic either because too much tension will make it snap loose. You can also use thick jump rings to thread on the crimps and then tie the elastic to the jump rings.

Here's what it looks like on my head, I just cannot get the darn photo to rotate. These fancy ribbons are on sale at Jo-Ann's for $1.97 in the embellishment section. The thinner suede ribbons work fine as long as you fold over and glue the end edge to make it thicker for the crimp to grab on to.

Have fun!
