The Emerald City, a costume
Feb. 5th, 2007 10:34 amIt seems to be mod posting day.
I’m almost finished with a new belly dance bra and belt, but I know I won’t have time this week to take pictures and I plan to wear it at an event this Sunday. I thought sharing it would get me over the hump of the last few strands of beaded fringe. As for why I call it the Emerald City costume, my stage name when performing is Ozma.
Excuse my face and hair, when I perform I wear contacts, stage make-up and do my hair and am almost unrecognizable by my peers.. But this is my daily life in which I wear my glasses and no make-up. I took these photos after a day with hot-yoga, a head cold and freezing wind.

What is left to do is this:
Finish the fringe on the back (it only has half in the picture)
Reinforce the hooks on the bra and put a snap in to keep the tail of the chest strap from peeking out once hooked.
Stitching a lining into the belt and put the hooks in.
I made the bra and belt from scratch ( designed the belt pattern in felt and built up from there, bought hard individual bra cups and constructed the bra…).There are no appliques or prestrung fringe.
If you are interested in the process it is on my journal under the emerald tag…every little step.
