Ring woes

Hello crafty people! I have a problem that prompts a question. The problem is: my engagement ring is a thin cute black band with light wispy hearts going all the way around. it is a little too big for my finger at size 6, I have skinny fingers. I would get it resized professionally, but! It's stainless steel, which means no jeweler will do that for me. waah. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here knows of any clever ways to make a ring fit one's finger better. Something to put on the inside (which will withstand wear)? Something... else? it's not THAT much bigger than my finger, but when I shake my hand, it does fly off. And this is the smallest size the manufacturer has, too..
