I've been wanting to get a button maker for SO long, but wasn't sure if I should because nice ones cost so much. I finally gave in to my desire and bought a Tecre 1" press from ButtonSafari on eBay. It was brand new, with parts for 1,000 buttons, a flat back button adapter (for magnets, etc.), the warranty, and with shipping it only turned out to be about $226.

I am SO happy that I bought it! I bought/paid for it on a Monday, and got it on that Wednesday. I've gone a little crazy making buttons, since it's so easy with the machine. I am a little frustrated that the circle cutters/punches cost so much, they would be really handy, but I can't see myself shelling out $80-$150 to cut freaking circles out. I've just been using good ol scissors so far.

Please excuse the glare/shoddy image, I just put them on my scanner!

This is one of the sets of buttons I have made--Futurama. I got the pictures for them by cutting up a Futurama Comic book. I've done the same with a Simpsons comic to make another set of about 100 buttons, but I just did them last night and haven't gotten any photos.

Also, I'm working on about a thousand other projects at the same time. I wish I could quit work and just craft all day :)
