[identity profile] hitzusin.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] craftgrrl
Hello everyone! After about an hour searching around various communities, I found this one! Then I searched through the memories to see if I could find something on what I'm looking for, and not finding it, I thought I'd ask. =D

With a large amount of free time, I've decided to take up a new hobby; candle making! I've found myself with infinate hours of free time and really nothing to do, even for an internet junky like me! So I thought this would be the perfect hobby. And it sounds really fun!

But my question, folks, lies in gel candles. Right now I'm in the process of gathering information. What I'd need, the cost of materials, etc. And in doing so I came across a 'how to' for gel candles. And wow, does this look cool! But I had a question that I haven't been able to find, either on livejournal or in various candle website that I spent the better part of five hours looking through.

At what temperature does gel wax melt when lit? I found many tutorials on how to make gel candles with objects embedded into them, and the idea would be great for gifts. But then I thought, wouldn't that burn the object inside the wax too, if you lit it? So are gel candles -made- to be lit, or are they just for decor?

Because honestly, the last thing I want is to make a candle for someone, have them light it and the darn thing catch on fire because the flame hit the embedded object.

Any information on this would be most greatly appreciated. Thank you!! ♥
