Sewing sticky velcro?

So I made this bag:

And as you can see, I lined it with a silky materiel and put velcro on it. The velcro is self-adhesive, but I'm finding it's not quite sticky enough. It's starting to come off a little in some places. The problem is, I tried to sew it in but the glue totally gummed up the needle. If I pull the velcro off, the goop will be all over the lining and I'd have to pull the whole bag apart and make a new lining. Any suggestions? When I tried to sew it I couldn't get more than a couple stiches in before the needle was ruined. Also it's very hard to push through. I hand-sewed it, it might work on the machine, but it would probably still gum up the needle. Help!
