Earth-Conscious Scarecrow
Sep. 18th, 2007 03:45 pmI've been in a slight craft rut lately.
I've made ornaments for Christmas that I haven't yet posted but today is more "creative" than crafty. Hope it still qualifies.
I've wanted to make a scarecrow for a while now but don't really have the patience or the materials. So, going through my garage and seeing lots of recyclables (newspaper, plastic bags, etc) as well as a lot of outgrown clothes from my daughter, I decided to play around.
And so, I present to you the 100% recycled (or at least reused) scarecrow...

I wadded up newspaper into balls, stuffed them into plastic bags, tied them up, pierced the pieces through with wire hangers (that we don't use anymore) that I straightened. I formed it all into a onesie and then put it in a dress, added socks (but no shoes because I couldn't find any) and painted a slightly odd looking face on her. I added yarn that was leftover from a previous project, gave her a hairband that was always too small for my kid's big head, attached an ear of corn (leftover from our annual harvest festival parade float) to her hand as an offering for the crows instead of scaring them away and then I staked her into the ground.
I'm relatively pleased with her.
I considered trying to craft a crow to attach to her arm, but don't really know if I've got the skillz for that...
