hey, i'm amber and i'm new to this community :) well rather, i've been watching it for awhile and i finally have something to post.

the project: t-shirt turned tank top
i had this t-shirt that i adored, but it fit oddly - it was uncomfortable and looked a bit funny on me. of course i didn't want to let a perfectly good shirt to waste, so (when i was supposed to be getting ready to go out.. oops) i decided to cut it up and make it into a tank top that i'd actually be able to wear. i'm not too fabulous at explaining processes, so please bear with me.

it was kind of a spur of the moment thing, so my procedure was fairly crude (with lots of unnecessary steps, haha.) to start i put on the t-shirt and, using a colored pencil, marked where i thought i should cut the arm and neck holes at. after i had a good line (this being after several rounds of marking dots, taking off the shirt, drawing lines, putting the shirt back on, drawing new lines, etc.) i cut the sleeves and neck to the pattern i'd drawn. fortunately i drew the lines well :)

then i cut the straps in half at the top of the shoulder, also cutting the shirt down both sides so it was in two pieces: a front half, and a back half.

after tying the straps together so i could adjust where the neckline fell, i put the shirt on (although it was more like a sandwich-sign at this point.) using safety pins, i re-attached the sides together to make the top custom-fit.

once the shirt was pinned back together, i took it off and marked (again, with a colored pencil) where i had pinned it by putting little dots where the safety pins entered the fabric. then i removed the safety pins and replaced them with plain old sewing pins so i could sew up the sides.

i turned the shirt inside out and sewed the sides together. for the last step, i turned the shirt back right side out and used red thread (because i think red and beige is a fabulous color combination) to do a zig-zag stick along the edges i had cut to keep them from fraying.

on me - that stain is eyeshadow, because i'm careless :o

sorry about the bad lighting, the lightbulb burned out in my room and i was running on christmas lights and a touch lamp.
