Nov. 21st, 2007 09:54 pmMy best friend's Christmas is going to be a bit sad this year. Her grandmother, who raised her and was basically her mother, died last week after a long battle with lung cancer. Before she died, knowing she was declining, my friend asked Oma if she would knit a blanket for her for when she had kids. Unfortunately, Oma was too sick and was never able to do it.
I had an idea for a Christmas present for her, but I needed the cooperation of her family. Fortunately, I'm close to Ashley's family and talked to her grandfather and mother about my idea. This is part one of three:
I had her grandfather and mother search through Oma's closet and grab some of her most often worn clothes. I took some blues, some pinks, and then another dress. I'm making three quilts, one for Ashley, one for a future boy, and one for a future girl :) I have plenty of scraps and will be glad to help make more should more children arrive :)

On the very bottom square on the left is an angel. Ashley started a collection of Willow Tree Angels with Oma a few years ago, so I looked on the website and drew a 2D version of one of the angels and made an applique of it for the bottom corner.

So.... whatcha think?
One down, two to go...

Thanks you guys so much for all of your comments! I couldn't wait, so I went ahead and finished the two baby blankets and gave them to her tonight and she absolutely loved them. Yay for making my friend cry... but in a good way! She really loved the colors and everything and the touch of the angel and I'm glad she was so happy with them! Yay!
