craftgrrl | I need some help brainstorming (Reply)

for the record, I am finishing up some dresses and a crocheted hat and a scarflet and cool stuff that I will post when they get done.
but for now I need your help.

if any of you are familiar with the Model United Nations program for high school students in America, I have a conference on December 8th. the whole event is just a mock United Nations with students pretending to be representatives for different countries on different committees. its pretty awesome. and this conference I get to be CUBA! and I'm on the UNDP committee. I'm so excited. but I really want to wear something that screams Cuba/communist/Latin America but I still need to be dressed professionally so people will take me seriously. I want to put this together myself (this is where your opinions come in) but I don't really know what "look" I'm really going for.

I really want to look at least a little authentic and easily recognizable but not too stereo typical (so the military hat and coat are out of the question)

maybe a patch with the coat of arms

and something with a red star on it (for communism)

and a lot of army green and red trims

or like the young pioneers (but more professional looking??)

(cuba was it was elected to the Global 500 Roll of Honour of the United Nations Environment Programme for its environmental activities in 2001 so you know its good)

I want to use something really symbolic like the hammer and sickle, but i don't want it to be associated with the CCCP.

(also I am in fact a girl so growing a fat castro beard would be out of the question)

and I should also add that I am a pretty competent sewer and as of late I can crochet and knit but I'm a pretty well-rounded craftster.
