[identity profile] yourgrandfather.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] craftgrrl
hiiii. i've been lurking forever, but i've never gotten around to posting anything. i had to pull some stuff together for a craft show in milwaukee over the past week or two, so i thought i'd share. feel free to ask questions if you have any!

okay, this is from halloween, but i don't really care. i made my friend erin & myself flapper costumes. she picked the complicated one, of course. it turned out really great though. it's woven costume silk & has an invisible zipper running up the right side of it to close it.

that was my flapper costume [nice face, right?]. sewing all that fringe on was the definition of a pain in the ass.

sorry about the picture quality, but that's just a knit shirt with some circular flounce detailing.

well, i guess this is "reconstructed," but i don't know what any of the materials were before i got my paws on them. i bought a huge bag of scrap from a woman i know that runs her own shop & all of that stuff was in it. it was obviously from other garments, but it was in flat/scrap pieces by the time i got it. the sleeves are sheer & there's a cowl in the back.

i absolutely adore this top [made completely from scratch, my pattern too], but it has to be re-worked. the olive/brown [it looks brown in real life] material is a canvas-weight woven & is very unforgiving. turns out you can't lift your arms very high, so i'm working on fixing it right now. i'm gonna try it in a knit & again in the same woven with a pattern tweak.

made the t-shirt from scratch/my own pattern [facing around the collar] & hand screen printed it.

same as above, other than the fabric being different, along with the printing.

vinyl handbag, made from scratch. it's probably about a foot & a half long.

with an inside pocket, & the liner matches the flower detailing on the exterior. that exterior flower was on both sides, by the way.

reconstructed from a dress.

clutch made from an old coat.

with pockets for ID cards inside.

same as above, from a canvas with lace detailing.

canvas/tapestry handbag.

with inside zipper pocket.

okay, so i've been LUSTING after a hat like that since the fall lines started being promoted, but i can't see putting thirty bones i don't have out for one. i went thrifting today & picked up a crapload of grandpa sweaters. a few strategic cuts & whips through on my surger, & i have my perfect knit hat. thank god for being self-reliant, right?

and i went along & made matching legwarmers!!!! i live in chicago, so it's definitely necessary haha.

i've always got something coming & going through my machines, but that's what i had that was lying around. thanks!!
