Feb. 22nd, 2008 02:11 pmUH OH IT IS MOM'S BIRTHDAAAY

I can put hours and hours into something for my mom as a gift and she will be all, "Oh, okay," but if I spend a very little amount of time on something she is always "GLEEEEEEE!" (This Christmas she came to me and said, "OH! You're artistic! Okay, I have a song I like the lyrics from. Can you, um, find a nice font and print that out on a nice piece of paper for me so I can frame it?" *facepalmtree*)
So I decided for her birthday this year I would kitsch this baby up a notch
She has a purse that is FIVE MILES WIDE and she loves her damn dog more than she ever loved me, so:

That is an ugly little pin of her dog's head she can put on her purse.

She also never stopped liking the sun/moon/stars theme so I made her some magnets so she can stick more damn pictures of her dog on her fridge

and a set of little charms because the woman has more chains than Mr. T.
Those charms and magnets were made using a mold for the faces to lessen the time I spent on them which invariably means my mom will love them.
Other things I have dinked around with:

Someone asked for a dragon playing bagpipes. Welp.

I watched some Avatar because someone recommended it to me and I made a little Aang.

A polar bear.

I don't even know.
This little guy has a short story:
It is widely known that dragons hoard gold and silver and other jewel-y trinkets and virgins to satiate their hunger for beautiful things. (Well, okay, not all virgins are beautiful, but for some reason most dragons manage to get the pretty ones handed to them.)
This need for beauty also extends to their abodes. They want the nicest, shiniest, prettiest place they can lay their greedy little claws on.
This instinct got Gliff the dragon in a bit of a tight spot.
It was bad enough that Gliff was the last of his clutch to find himself a new home. Mom and Dad dragon had been making noises back home about how it would be really, really, REALLY great if Gliff got out, like, now. (Dragons don't mess about with hinting.)
It was bad enough that the beautiful shining item that sparkled its way into Gliff's attention as he flew over the beach already seemed to be inhabited by a really sharp thing that kept its eyes on stalks.
It was bad enough that the giant hermit crab had pinched Gliff in the tail when he tried to fight it. He did end up winning - there's not much any type of crab can do when faced with a gullet that can boil water in ten seconds, after all - but tail pinches hurt the body as well as the pride.
The worst of it all became apparent as Gliff slunk himself into his new home. As colorful as this residence was, as much as it shone and sparkled in the sun... it was much, much too small. Especially for a dragon whose tail was swelling from a crab pinch.

(Everything above this was made out of polymer clay, baked, painted, and glazed.)
And one more - maybe less of a crafty thing than a "HEY look I'm so bored and there's random crap on my work table" thing:

I made a paintbrush out of a toothpick, a little tape, and some bristles from a long-dead larger brush; the palette and painting are watercolor paper.
My lizards are positively thrilled when I am bored.
