More experiments with natural dyeing!
May. 11th, 2008 05:14 pmhello all,
I've been experimenting with natural dyes again - some of this was so I could use up odds and ends that had been stored in the freezer, some of it was using dyes I'd just made.

t-shirt, tie-dyed with natural dyes - alum mordant and blackberry, beetroot, daffodil and redbush

t-shirt, spiral-dyed with natural dyes - alum mordant and blackberry, beetroot, daffodil and redbush (had been onion-dyed before, but didn't do much - so was overdyed to see what happened).
I realise the colours aren't very permanent and these will need careful washing - but a fun experiment using leftovers and cheap shirts!
Now the wools!

"Spring Girl" - merino, mordanted with alum, dyed with beetroot, daffodil and red onion

"Spring Boy" - BFL, mordanted with alum, dyed with blackberry, redbush, daffodil and red onion
All of this dyeing was done by "painting" using a large (needleless) syringe, covering in food-wrap then steaming in the dyes.
