May. 16th, 2008 01:38 amSo, bit of a long story. My high school friend's prom is tomorrow. She asked me to go with her as a date, because she could not find anyone else. She's bummin' a little bit, I think, because she is straight and could not find a boy to go with her. Anyway, she took me dress shopping yesterday because I needed a dress and prom is tomorrow and I am not so crafty that I could whip up a prom dress in two days. We discussed the corsage situation, and originally we were going to buy corsages for each other, but she decided that she didn't want to spend money on one more thing.
But I felt sad, because it's her senior prom, and I'm sentimental, and felt that she deserved a corsage. So I took a look at my crafting supplies, and my unused Joanne's gift card from christmas, and, as the French say,
Here was my process, which I share only because I am quite proud of it:
I searched through all my paper, origami and otherwise, and could not find a color to match her dress, which is magenta. So I decided to paint some pink origami paper with red and blue watercolors, to make it darker and more magenta. The paper was wrinkly, but once it was folded it didn't matter. While it was still wet, I gently rubbed a spoon in swirly patterns for texture. Then, I folded two lilies using this website. One was white (because my dress is white) and one was the painted paper. I was quite pleased so far. Next, I ran out to Joanne's and bought: floral tape, ribbon (silver and pink), and corsage bracelets. I returned home and fashioned an origami leaf from this website. I twisted the bottoms of the lily and the leaf together. Then, I wrapped floral tape around it. Next, I made a tiny paper crane out of the magenta paper and a tiny white paper star. I took some jewelry wire (not sure what you call it) and made a spring by wrapping it around a paintbrush. Then, I stuck the wire into the crane and the star. I wrapped the wire around the stem and added a little more floral tape. Then, I clamped the corsage bracelet on, wrapped even MORE floral tape around it, tied some ribbon on, and HOORAY!!! Now view the pictures, I say!

For her

For her (yeah, that's my face. I was excited. don't hate. :D)

For me! (another strange face? I can't explain this one. it's kind of cute, though. hehehe)

Also for me!
I hope she likes them. :) I'm quite pleased with them. I think they're BETTER than a real flower, even! They'll last longer, anyway.
