Rainbow patchwork scarf
Jun. 8th, 2008 05:47 pmI really should be working on my slippers (well they're not mine per-se, they're Isilian's from DeviantArt, who won my 2000th pageview kiriban!) but instead I'm still thinking about rainbows.
Actually, to tell you the truth I'm thinking about something that starts with n- and ends in -ap, but after my n.a.p. I'd like to do more rainbows!

28 cute cotton prints on the front (yes, I really did say 28!) and super duper soft minky fleece (nippleless) on the back.
I'm just so happy with how it turned out! My mother was disappointed I didn't use bright rainbow colour, but I really love the blend of the muted colours. Much more my style.
This was also my very first attempt at quilting (even though I didn't actually quilt the pieces down. I guess you could say it was my first attempt at piecing, then?) and I now realise there's actually an art to picking out colours and prints that both complement and contrast. It's a lot harder than it looks! And two strips of each print makes for a lot of sewing for just one scarf! 28 different prints also makes for one expensive shopping trip, but at least my fabric stash has increased enormously just from this one project.
I was thinking about making some more of these because I just love them so much, and I need to start making items for when I finally get to do a craft market, which is something I'm really aiming toward now. I just have to find the perfect market for me. I hope these are something that people would be interested in. The scarf bug has really bitten me now, and I'd love to do some more colour schemes with patchwork and some embroidery too. So many ideas!
Here is a closer shot of the colours and prints I used. You'll have to excuse my horrible Photoshop job in piecing the two photos together - I couldn't stand far enough away to take a picture of the whole rainbow in the one frame.

This is my slice of sunshine that I made yesterday, and I'm so so so happy with how it turned out!
