Funky Faces...
Jun. 29th, 2008 06:05 pmI decided to try something a little more difficult. I attempted caning a face out of sculpey.
It's distorted and a bit odd, but you know, I made it with the sole purpose of cheering me up. Since it's a little bit like looking into the pathetic face of a sympathy doll, it does the job.
By the time I was done building her, the cane was as round as a grapefruit. I chopped some slices off as I shrank it down so I'd have several in different sizes. I stopped slicing before the cane was gone, so I've still got quite a bit left if I feel like making more.
But until then, these are the goods.

The first thing I made was this bracelet. The faces rotate so they're facing me as well as anyone else around me, giving that lovely "you ever get the feeling someone's watching you?" feeling.

Action shot (yeah, I do these a lot, so you know)

Last night I made this necklace. It's not what I wanted it to be, but I still like it.

Action.
The faces rotate on this one too, which isn't as cool, but I'll fix it eventually. Somehow.

Very simple earrings

I actually like these quite a bit. My earrings are usually a bit more fussy so it's nice to have something easy for a change.

With the end piece of the cane, which was a bit distorted, I decided to make a ring.
I just made a thin loop of sculpey and fastened them together. I'm pleased.

Action shot. And yeah. It's quite large and attention-grabbing.
It sort of makes people do a double-take and go "well, wtf was that thing?"
My husband says it looks like a monkey. I don't mind.

The final thing I made was out of curiosity and boredom. I just took two of the reject slices that didn't looks so great and smooshed them onto the baking dish. When they were done baking, this is what happened.
I love them quite a bit because they're strange and they're thin, so they don't distort the paperback novels I'm addicted to.
Love em? Hate em? A little freaked out and intrigued by them? Discuss.
