Craft fair display advice? + pics!
Jul. 9th, 2008 04:44 pmI've recently been accepted into my first craft fair (hooray!), and I'm primarily making little books and notecards from reclaimed paper. Any ideas on how to display them? I'm sharing my 10' x 20' indoor booth with four other artists/crafters, and they make either paintings or jewelry, so I have to be flexible about how things will be set up (intermingled with their stuff). I know having things on different levels will help add interest and draw people in, but after that, without buying a display rack or something, I'm a bit of a loss. Most of the displays people talk about in the craftster forums and in this community, for example, are not for small flat objects like books and notecards. Also, the last entry in the memories section was in January, 2007, and I'm a special special snowflake who needs new replies. :)
Some of my random, unfocused-as-of-yet ideas and questions:
+ Do you think baskets of upright books and notecards will encourage people to flip through them, or discourage them from looking too closely?
+ What about just clothes-pinning items to ribbons and seeing if I can hang the ribbons somewhere? Yay or nay?
+ Have any of you sold at craft fairs (silly question, I know you have), and if so, do you feel comfortable sharing how you set things up? (Pictures would be fabulous.)
+ If you have sold at craft fairs, do you recommend taking credit cards? Since it's my first time, and my items are probably all going to be under $20, I'm disinclined to bother with it, but if you have a compelling reason why you think I ought to, please share.
I've read a bunch of "first time at the craft fair?" lists, but natch, I like hearing from the voice of experience, so feel free to toss out other random advice.
And just so this isn't me asking questions, here are the little notebooks that I was juried on for the fair.

Thanks so much for any advice and help!
Also, if you're in the DC area, let me know and I can give you more info and directions to the fair -- it looks like it's going to be neat.

P.S. I think we ought to have a "craft fair" tag so that if something isn't primarily a craft fair post (so it doesn't make it into the memories section), but has craft fair elements in it, we can find it. :)
