Making Soap

I really have been wanted to try and have read a little bit on the net but I figured this was the best place to go..
It sounds kind of complicated, is it really?
SOOO i guess what I'm asking is where do I start, what do I need, any easy recipes to start off?
I know Michaels has kits, it can't really be as complicated as it sounds can it?!
