Because my camera was the most craptastic ever...but I just bought a new one, so hopefully I will be able to post more.

The only things I've recently completed were magnetic boards.

auctionmode

This is the "auction mode" on my fancy new camera. ^.^ It shows the three uses for these boards: to prop up pages while you're trying to type from them, to hold important notes and bills, or as a photo frame.

So, I made this one for myself. I just got an office job, and needed somewhere to put up my task list where I could see it, no matter how much crap I spread over my desk.

my board

I took it work for a week or two. My friend Tiffany and I shared a desk, since I was dayshift and she was nightshift, and her birthday was coming up, so I said, "Hey, Tiffany, I'm planning on maybe selling these boards. Do you want to use mine, and give me some feedback?" And if she liked it, I would make her one.

So, like three days later:
"Kristin, you're selling these? Can I have one?"
Five days later:
"Kristin, I love your board. When are you going to make me one?"
A week later:
"Kristin, seriously, I will buy one from you."

But it wasn't her birthday yet, so I couldn't give it to her! Argh!

So, finally, almost two weeks after I brought mine to work, I brought in this:

Tiffany's board

And left it on our desk with a big "Happy Birthday" stuck to it. She was ecstatic. Our mutual friend started calling it, "Tiffany's Love Board." We also decided it was a "he," and probably gay, based on the roses. I remember Tiffany saying "Can I have a gay love board? Pleeeease? Let my love board be gay!"

These were really easy to make; I saw the project while browsing through Craft Warehouse.

All you need is a thin sheet of stainless steel, 6x10 inches, glue, magnets, decorative paper, and a block of wood.

I'm not great with wood, so I just bought the ones they were selling, which were about 3.5x4x1.5 inches, with a slit cut across the long way 1/12 of an inch wide and a little under half an inch deep. If you don't like the wood, you can use a Cropodile or any other heavy-duty hole puncher, add holes at the top, and suspend it by a piece of ribbon. If you plan to keep the board in the same place for a long time (and have permission from whoever owns the walls, in an apartment or whatever), I suppose you could nail it to the wall.

I just used three pieces of coordinating paper for these two; fancy ripping and layering on the front, and a plain piece covering the back. Mine has holes punched down the side, with giant black brads and a ribbon. Tiffany's board has decorated magnets; mine has plain magnets, and they look just fine.

I did manage to find the one real way to mess this up: layering too many pieces of paper at the bottom. Tiffany's has a total of 6 pieces of paper on the bottom, and fits far too tightly in the block. With a wider slit cut in the block, or suspending it from something, that wouldn't be a problem.
