I'm not sure if this is quite "crafty", but this is the first place I could think of to ask...

There's this clock that was amongst my husband's grandparents' things, that my step-father kind of fell in love with when he was helping me move in. Tonight my husband's family (finally) started going through all the junk, and designated the clock as "donate-able", and said I could give it to my steppy after I mentioned his fondness for it. His birthday's in the end of September, just a few days before my parents are scheduled to visit me (after a year and a half- I moved a couple thousand miles away), and I'd really like to have it fixed up for him. Of course, I'm poor as all hell, so I want to attempt to do as much as possible myself (he'd probably enjoy that, too)...

The aforementioned clock. It's about a foot and a half high. The glass needs to be cleaned (haven't tried, but I'm hoping it'll come up okay and I won't have to replace it). The white shit covering 1-3 is, unfortunately where the paint's come off. I'm not sure if I should replace the face, or if the defects give it "character".

Just opened the door. The latch is broken but I figure that's pretty simple to replace. And, uh, as you can see in the center, I think there's something missing... (halp!?)

Middle bit again. I don't know what's going on here.

And this is what's going on behind the face of the clock. I really don't know what's going on here...

Any help would be very much appreciated.
