[identity profile] wendycanflytoo.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] craftgrrl
hi all...

so after reading the knitting post by [livejournal.com profile] emilytbm, i was motivated to knit for the first time in years. YEARS. i decided to do her scarf for my mom for christmas. two nights later, i'm nearly done.

doing this has caused me to go through my old stash of yarn and i came across my favorite unfinished project, which i need advice on...

so i bought two skeins of this yarn when i was in ireland. it was expensive and i didn't have much room, so i figured two could give me something, even if it was small.

i started knitting it on size 7 needles as i didn't have any others available, and i somehow found the pattern in the stripes right away. so i continued to the knit the pattern until i finished skein one.

i was trying to figure out what to do... maybe put some coordinating color in between the two skeins to make a long scarf, or something, and i went to a yarn store to talk to the women there. well, the moment i pulled out my project, they started talking to me with this disgust on their faces, so angry, saying i've done a horrible job, i've used the wrong size needles, i need to start it all over again. then they wouldn't talk to me or help me find more yarn. so yeah. needless to say, i felt stupid and completely inept and threw the project in my basket and put it out of my mind.

this is what it looks like just randomly knitted.

well now that i've been knitting this collar scarf for my mom, i realized i could do a collar scarf with this. just finish it up with the second skein, add some button holes and call it a day.

but i'm still "haunted" by the nasty knitters' words. should i just restart? should i knit on different size needles? should i lose the stripes? one skein knit up to about 17 inches in length. i was thinking that to really highlight the double sided colors, i could knit the second skein in reverse, that is, knit the red/tan side to the orange/grey side, so when i button it you can see the double colors.

and something i finished years ago that reminds me of this situation... (sorry, photobucket won't save the rotated photo...)
