hi SFTO...I am wondering if anyone can help me on this project that I am attempting. if this is not ok please let me know!!
the most basic question is: how can I sew into knit things? is this possible?
I have a knit turtleneck that I cut down the center to make a cardigan. I want to attach wine corks to it somehow to be little toggle things.
a few problems I'm having:
1. how do I attach anything to knits? could I sew buttons on at all? is this even possible? it is a pretty chunky knit
2. will this unravel excessively? it is starting to fray a bit at the edges (I've worn it with incognito safety pins acting as buttons a few times, and washed it once). my friend recommended sealing the edges with mod-podge.....???? but it is also big enough to fold the edges in a little bit, if I could just figure out how to sew the darn thing without the end of the thread always slipping through the holes....
3. if I can't sew it, any other ideas on attaching the wine corks? they will hold string, but getting yarn through them is difficult.... maybe mod-podge could work here too to attach yarn around them???
ok I hope that is somewhat coherent. thanks for anything!
