Polka dots and stripes
Dec. 4th, 2008 03:00 pmPleated wristlet pouch made from part of a thrift-store skirt. Now filled with chocolates to be put in the gift exchange that my linguistics study-buddies and I are having tonight.

Another one, from part of a thrift-store blouse.

And a pair of crocheted mittens, more or less made up as I went along. I knew the first pair would be way too full of mistakes to put under the Christmas tree, so I made them in colours that go with my coat (and that keep making me want mint-chocolate ice cream!). The pair I'm working on now are much tidier, and for such thin mitts, they're surprisingly warm and comfy!

And I have a question about fake fur: I found a nice large piece of it at a thrift-store for $0.99, and couldn't resist - it's at least a teddy-bear's worth, and I'd pay well over $15 for that amount at Fabricville. Only trouble is, everything that comes from the thrift-store smells like whatever it is they use to wash their clothes and fabrics. So how do you get thrift-store detergent smell out of fake fur? I don't trust it in my washing machine, and I'm not even sure I want to get it wet unless I know for sure it'll be okay and not get all matted and gross. I'd really appreciate any advice you might have!
