One of my best friends is going away today, so I made her a heating pad in the shape of a heart. I'm pretty stoked about it so I thought I'd share. The how-to is pretty easy:
+Draw the outline of a heart on cardboard or paper. Make it big, keeping in mind all those little corners you'll have to sew.
+Using your pattern, cut two hearts out of felt or some other kind of (micro-wave safe) fabric.
+On mine I embroidered the little details onto the right side of the fabric before stitching the two sides together.
+Right sides together, stitch the two hearts together, making sure there are no gaps, but leaving an opening for the filling.
+For filling I used dry rice that I had scented with vanilla extract and left to sit for months. You really don't have to wait that long.
+Pour rice into the gap you've left, squish it into all the corners, keep adding until it's really full.
+Whip-stitch the gap closed!

Sorry about the blur, apparently I can't operate a camera.

I did the back side in black felt, with a little embroidered "love" heart.

Holdin' your heart in my hand.

Thanks for looking!
