handmade dog collars.

Hi there! I really want to make my animals some collars like the above using webbing and plastic buckles etc, my question is, I have a normal sewing machine, can it handles stitching though the webbing? It will have to sew through double webbing, can it handle it, is there a special needkle that I need for this type of work?
