So, I'm seriously thinking about getting myself an embroidery machine. I've been looking at the Janome Memory Craft 200E, but I thought I should ask you lovely ladies (and lads) for some input. I'm looking for a low-cost ($500 or less, if possible) machine that has a USB slot. At this point, those are the only factors I care about. Anyone have any personal recommendations/favorites?
And now for the pictures!
So, I'm finally getting around to making a Steampunk costume. No pictures of the actual costume yet, but I have a prop gun mostly finished.
Before:

$1 squirt gun from Wally World. They had a huge bin full of them, and each color had a different style to it. I liked this one the best. :D
After:

Hurray, drybrushing! Sanded off the words, plugged up the water hole (it looks kind of like a button now), and glued a piece of garment leather on the handle. I have some rusty mesh meant for scrapbooking that I was thinking about putting on the gun, but I'm worried it would be too much.
As for the Leatherworking, I've been putting together garb for my new LARP character. Nothing too exciting. The only things I made before these was a belt, tankard strap, and a holster for a book/box.

A buckled bracer. It has a twin, but he's camera shy. The rivets are lopsided. I think it's because the posts are too long.

Added some straps to a wicker laundry basket to carry all my extra gear around. Also added a buckling latch to the front.

A chainmail circlet thingy. It's eventually going to be more like a skullcap, with a beaded neck cover and fabric train. Styled after this, but shorter.

A frog for my boffer sword. The inside is lined with a nice chocolate-brown suede.

A gambeson for my other half. My first time working with bias tape. Eeesh. I also used the pre-quilted padding. Lazy = me.

While I was working on the gun, I figured I could make my lantern a little more....appropriate? The thing was powder blue to start with. I also sanded the clear plastic part to give it a frosted look, and I took out the diffuser inside.
Now for the Knitting!
Eons ago I posted a picture of the Dr. Who scarf I was starting. It's not done yet (see comment regarding laziness above), but it's getting there. I think I'm at the 3/4 point?

(For reference, the dummy being eaten by the scarf is 5'6".)
