pants to shorts

So I lost some weight recently and I have all these old pants that don't fit. I suppose I could take them in, but I really don't like baggy corduroys anymore.

I might like them more if I made them into baggy long shorts, though. So any suggestions on making them a little bit hipper? How would I, for instance, take the leftover leg material and make cargo pockets or something?

Or any other good suggestions?
