ATCs ahoy!
Aug. 24th, 2009 01:56 amI've become obsessed with making artist trading cards (ATCs). If you don't know what they are they are like baseball cards without the baseball and are infinitely awesomer. There aren't many rules with ATCs. The two big rules are that they must be 2.5 x 3.5 inches and they can only be traded, never sold. They can be any media or mixture of media.
Anywho, have a look! All images are 300x400px. The ATCs were photographed with with my phone (HTC G1 ftw!) so the quality isn't epic. (Boo!)
The first batch of ten were drawn on paper I pillaged from a book that was printed in 1944. When I finish weeding out the papers for art projects I'm going to make an altered book out of the leftover husk.
"Skull with flowers." I love skulls, butterflies and five-petaled flowers. This was the first one I made.
"Whatever we lose..." The words on this ATC are from e.e. cumming's poem "maggie and milly and molly and may," my favorite poem.
"I love you." Because I really do. :D
"Flower Power." Which one give the fire power though!?
"Squidberry." Okay, so I know it's more like an octopus. But "Octopusberry" doesn't have the same ring.
"Sweetness." I'm so fond of this one. I may never trade it.
"Paint Palette." I have a necklace pendant kind of like this. Really it was just and experimentation with color before I mucked up the line-work on the other ATCs. Sixty-plus year old paper? Holds Prismacolor markers well.
"Coffee Love." Because I can't live without sixty-ounces a day. (I've cut down now, I swear.)
"Eternal Love." They inside it's real. Personally, I never question a dead thing.
"Sinister Cupcake." I'm going to revisit this later, because I'm not happy. I may just redo. Where's my easy button?! Why has Staple's forsaken me?! (Staple's has the easy button, right?)
The next pieces are drawn on Strathmore paper bits made for ATCs.
"Bunny Half." A change in paper merited an experimentation with pens and lines and such.
"Kitty Half." Because the Bunny shouldn't be lonely.
"Dragon." I wanted to create something that lived within the space I was working with. And I wanted it to be CUTE.
"Unicorn." I've spirited Rainbow Bright away and hot-glued a horn to her horse's head.
"Angel Kitty." Another I'm not happy with. I'm trading her with my friend soon so I don't have to live with my failure! (Totally kidding.)
"Pink Princess." Experimenting with filling the entire space.
"Blue Princess." Really, though, she's quite happy. See her smile? :)
Thank you for looking!
