A friend of mine is getting married in April and is having a themed wedding. Good times, right?? Well, it is Old Hollywood/Glamour/1920-40/Gangster theme. Clear as mud, right? Well, we can dress with one of those themes but I am having issue with my body shape. I don't know what is right for me or what will look ok. If I can't go "in costume" I will end up wearing "modern" clothing. Soooo, crafty ladies, help me with a "style" that will flatter my body. Let me explain a little more. I am older, 42, and I am pear-shaped. I had weight loss surgery in 2006 and have a bit of belly flab. My arms give a new meaning to the word "Flapper." I was thinking a tank style dress, with an overcoat/dress in the same color so my arms are not exposed. Kind of along the lines of a robe, with flowy sleeves. I would be making this myself and I am not new to sewing but do you ladies this this would look "themey" enough? I am thinking the tank dress would resemble a flapper dress while the coat/cover would resemble a "cocoon coat" very popular during that time. Of course, I would add all the correct accessories. A headband, t strap shoes, long beads and a matching bag. I want to be comfortable but look the part. DO you think this would work?? I have a bobbed hair cut and that won't change any time soon. I just don't know, I have Googled 1920's fashion to death!
I am just at a loss. Costuming and sewing warrants crafty, right??
This is what I am considering, what do you think?
Usually I would never ask, buuuuut.....
