Any needle felters??

I figured this would be the perfect place to ask. I have a month-long vacation with nothing to do and I'd looove to learn how to needle felt. I've been looking at needle felting artist's work such as Kit Lane and The Licorice Tree and I've wanted to try it just for a change of pace.

Any needle felters here? Do you have any tips for a beginner needle felter (ie. best types of wool roving, best types of needles, etc)? I've been watching some youtube videos.. any other recommendations for where to turn for tutorials?
