A couple what I call 'utility' projects.
Otherwise known as: Stuff for around the house.....

First off a new tea cozy for my stone tea pot.

Made of a red poly satin brocade with various Monks frolicking along the surface. Quilted onto some acrylic thermal batting using gold metallic thread in freehand squiggles. It gives me something to look at over morning tea, as the stitches remind me of those old 'Family Circle' cartoons where you had the dotted line to see where the dog, or boy, or girl went throughout the day. 'Cept with monks.

Trimmed in some beige and charcoal stripe piping (actually this is the backside of the fabric, the front is a plaid if you can believe it) which is also used on the inside as lining.

Black plastic button on the top with a piece of grey paracord my man tied into a Chinese square knot.

I was a bit dodgy about using the new acrylic thermal batting, as I was used to that silvered quilted cotton stuff. But it holds the heat in far better, and I doubt if it will soak up the tea and stain so horribly like my last cozy did.

I call the look "Tim Burton meets Asian Carnival."

~I also made the grey placemat it is displayed on, and the black chair will also be getting a seat cover made for it in the same red brocade.~

And speaking of seat covers.....

I made a nice padded one for my new wood sewing stool.
Seeing as how I spend lots of time on it..... I needed something cush for my tush to rest on.

Made of strips of a red Shantung silk, and a black cotton my brother in law screenprinted with my original skull design (this was a test piece and the testing proved unsuccessful, but I kept the piece anyway.) Sewn together, then quilted with zig and straight stitched to a cotton batting and some utility cotton. (Pardon the wonky Zig stitches, my machine needs to visit the machine shoppe)

I went a little less traditional as I hate the look of seat cushions. Namely that 'pillow tied onto a chair' look.

So the top is quilted with some batting and a couple layers of scrap utility cotton, and then I made a little skirt that wraps over the edges with some elastic on the bottom for a nice fit.

And of course little ties made of scrap silk for each leg. It's almost a shame that they are near invisible when the stool is right side up, since they look like little bow ties.

And that is it for now!

Ta!
