The Invention of Pinwheels
Jan. 6th, 2010 09:27 amYou may recall that I posted about making this top last spring, well, I finally got around to quilting it, and it's my first finish of 2010.

(*s*); I nevertheless got through this one quite quickly - it's a simple quilt that needed, it turned out, simple quilting.

Nevertheless, I'm quite happy with how it turned out.
I quilted my five pointed flowers (sort of like pointsettias) on the pinwheels, some of my "squiggles" in the sashing that surrounded them, vines and leaves on the outer green border, more flowers and my not-so-straight triangular lines in the, go figure, triangular corners.
And hey - did you know that I invented pinwheels? I did! As you may remember, I'm a self-taught quilter and I was still pretty new to the game when one day, I was fooling around with four patch squares, and started sewing and cutting and sewing and cutting again, until low and behold I had this "fan" type thing. I ran upstairs with it and showed it BSP, saying "Look what I made! Aren't they COOL???!!!", to which BSP smiled and nodded and admired and agreed that yes, they were pretty amazingly cool.

A few months later, I discovered my "invention" was called a "pinwheel" and that they'd been around for hundreds of years.
*ahem*
So that's why I called this quilt "The Invention of Pinwheels". By the time I made this quilt, I already knew they were pinwheels, but to this day, every time I see a pinwheel, I think "I invented those". :)

'Cuz I did.
