As I get ready to head to school for another semester I found myself asking the question: "How will I keep what I eat from spoiling in the August heat?"

My solution during winter/ spring semester not being viable,[I tied my lunch up in a hankie].
Those larger strapped lunchboxes are just a pain to deal with when you have all your possessions on your person at all times.
And while I do think those little roll up bag coolers are cute, I'm past the age where I can still get away with something so cutesie.
So I made a Bento esque insulated cozy thing.

It took a bit longer than I would have liked, partially because I decided to put purple piping along the edges.....and had some velcro issues.....but here it is:

Made of a Halloween cotton print fabric, the top is backed with cotton flannel, the inside is backed in a polyester thermal batting. I've used this stuff on a tea cozy, and aside from making crinkle noises when moved, it works beautifully.
Velcro closure on the flaps, and piped in purple silk cording [made using rems from my scrap bin]

And open with what I used as a basis for my base measurements:

There is room for more stuff, but this is usually what I bring with me.
I have the strappy tie thing if I want to hang it off the outside of my backpack with a carabeener, but in theory, it should fit inside my bag most days.

I also toyed with the idea of covering it all in clear vinyl to keep it clean, but vinyl usually cracks, and the whole thing is washable.

And there you have it!
