customising a lamp!

Hello!

I've never posted before but have been a member a while. I'm into all sorts of arty stuff primarily fashion - customising clothes, making random accessories and I'm slowly learning a bit about making items using a sewing machine but I can't afford to take a dress making course at the mo :-(

Anyway today's query is... I want to customise a lamp but I am concerned about what I can stick onto a lampshade, what glue is safe etc baring in mind that lamps get hot. I will be using a proper lampshade (I don't intend on trying to make the thing from scratch!) which is obviously somewhat heat resistant, so really I am just looking for advice on whether I need to choose the customisy bits carefully. I have no idea what to do at the mo.. a lot of my accessories are made from ribbon lace beads studs etc etc but I also have lots of silly plastic things in mind like those magnetic letters you get so you can spell stuff on your fridge or little toys like a hello kitty or something. Basically I am really random and have a screw loose so I like things that look a bit trashy but in an artistic way. ha.

So if anyone has any ideas/advice/warnings on customising a lamp I would be ever so grateful to hear your comments!!
