I've decided to make hats for horses. Well, for my horse. I am not sure who else would pay money for a hat for a horse.

Here is my hand sewn prototype! I couldn't find the bobbin to my mom's sewing machine, so I just did it by hand. It still only took me about an hour.

I was so excited to have found this carrot fabric! I was ambling around Jo-Ann Fabrics thinking "really what I want is fabric with carrots" and then I saw it! The lady cutting the fabric asked "what are you making?" and when I told her she was like "Oh. Ok."

Eagle has no problems wearing hats/clothing. He's a good horse model.

In the bill of the hat is just hard felt. I didn't want to use anything harder than that, as my horse may be sensitive to a hard thing flapping by his eyes. Not pictured, but when I rode him in his hat the brow band of his bridle held up the hat bill a bit more and it looked hilariously hat-like.

In case any of you are wondering how a horse hat works... The strap of his halter goes through that loop. I've attached temporary ribbons to further secure to the halter once the hat is on. I forgot to buy velcro for the straps, so hence the temporary ribbons in the wrong color (I actually probably have ribbon in an appropriate color, but my ribbon storage bin is too high up in my closet for me to get it down myself.
