I have a carved soapstone box that I use to keep my drawing pencils in and the metal hinges have come off, so I'm trying to figure out how to reattach them. I tried regular white glue, but of course it didn't work. I don't like using super glue, so I'm wondering what would work?

I looked up soapstone repair and saw a mention of epoxy glue, but I think that might have been for bonding soapstone to soapstone, not hinges to soapstone, so I'm at a loss. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.
