Fall leaves crafting
Nov. 27th, 2011 03:59 pmOne good thing to come out of our obnoxiously bad summer was that we've been having a lovely, lovely fall. The leaves have been turning GORGEOUS colors, so we take some home, press them between newspapers, and we have plenty of leaves for projects! We made leaf lanterns and leaf masks. Most of my crafts are kid centric, so fun for the whole family!

dried leaves waiting for crafting

I found this lovely leaf lantern tutorial, and we did it with my kids. It was definately a 1:1 child:adult ratio craft, so I didn't get any pictures of the actual crafting process. But it was fun!

and here is what it looked like all lit up inside. my kids used them as "flashlights" for walking around the neighborhood at night.

We also did this leaf mask tutorial. this was super fun, but did take two days (one to make, overnight for drying). This was really kid friendly, just glue and leaves and glitter. I let the kids go to town on how they glued and glittered.
we started with the dried, pressed leaves

glued them on the mask shape

then added glitter

lots and lots of glitter

and you get this! I think he looks a little bit like an owl

who is that masked child?

leaf man dad

leaf woman mom. my husband took this picture, he didn't tell me he could only see one of my eyes through the eyehole. :P
